Aurach
History
South of Kitzbühel in the front part of the Jochberg valley lies the widely branched village of Aurach with the church hamlet of Oberaurach, the village of Unteraurach as well as the scattered settlements on the eastern and south-eastern valley slopes. Aurach is first mentioned in documents as Owirawe in the ducal land register of 1280 and 1330. In the land tax book of 1464, Aurach is noted as belonging to the Jochberg quarter. Aurach remained part of Jochberg until 1833, after which Aurach became an independent political municipality. The municipal name Aurach bei Kitzbühel was officially approved in 1952.
