#LocalHeroes | The Alpenhaus

The Alpenhaus, high above Kitzbühel

Accessible via the Hornbahn cable car or the new Panorama Road, the Alpenhaus mountain restaurant is situated at an altitude of 1,670 meters, nestled in the rolling mountain landscape of the Kitzbüheler Horn. In every season, the Alpenhaus, with its huge sun terrace and three tiled stoves, offers athletes, food lovers, and families the perfect opportunity to relax, refuel, or round off a wonderful day. The Reisch family treats guests to homemade Tyrolean specialties such as Wiener schnitzel, house-smoked bacon, or the famous spinach dumplings. And those looking for something sweet can look forward to fresh Kaiserschmarrn or a variety of cakes from the in-house pastry chef, Hans-Peter.

A family business straight out of a storybook

The Alpenhaus mountain restaurant was purchased in 1883, along with the Kagringalpe, by skiing pioneer Franz Reisch and has been run by the Reisch family for over 130 years now. While it was run as a hotel in the second generation, Ernst Reisch, representing the third generation, converted the Alpenhaus into a day-use facility and had the famous Panoramic Road built in 1965. Today, Franz and Ursula Reisch, along with their children Franziska and Hans-Peter, run the business as the fourth and fifth generations. The two siblings have been part of the family business since they were seven years old and provide their parents with active support. Thanks to years of hands-on experience in the business and comprehensive training in tourism, the two young entrepreneurs have become indispensable to the Alpenhaus and are deeply committed to their work—a dedication that is greatly appreciated by both guests and their parents.

In harmony with the Kitzbüheler Horn

The Kitzbüheler Horn offers guests and locals countless opportunities to spend a day in nature, both in summer and winter. In addition to stunning hiking trails like the Karstweg, active visitors can explore the Horn by mountain bike or road bike during the warmer months, or burn off some energy with trail running. In winter, activities like skiing, winter hiking, or ski touring get the sports enthusiast’s heart racing and guarantee unforgettable moments. But there’s plenty to offer families in the summer as well, with the Alpine Flower Garden and the children’s climbing garden promising fun for all ages. The Alpenhaus audio guide, launched over 20 years ago and now available to guests in digital form, also provides information on the diverse activities at the Kitzbüheler Horn.

The Kitzbühel Formula

Alpine lifestyle and idyllic nature, rustic tradition and a modern way of life: few towns blend these contrasts as skillfully as Kitzbühel. The sports capital of the Alps became world-famous thanks to the legendary Hahnenkamm Races, but that is just one facet of the Kitzbühel legend. Rather, it is the region’s incomparable charm—encompassing the towns of Kitzbühel, Reith, Aurach, and Jochberg—its excellent infrastructure with top-tier hotels and restaurants, the wide range of sporting activities, and the fascinating landscape that make Kitzbühel so unique.
