Experience summer
How you spend your summer holiday in Kitzbühel is entirely up to you. Whether it’s a sporting holiday, a relaxing time strolling through the town, spa visits, culinary delights, or all of the above.
Experience breathtaking views, a historic old town and the Alpine way of life. Whatever you do, it will be special.
7 tips for summer moments
Whether it’s a challenging mountain hike over peaks or a gondola ride followed by a leisurely stroll, the mountains around Kitzbühel offer something for everyone. The gentle grassy hills of Kitzbühel boast over 1,000 km of hiking trails, featuring iconic landmarks such as the Kitzbüheler Horn and the legendary Hahnenkamm.
The world’s most famous ski run takes on a completely different character in summer: the “Streif Live” route stretches over 7.7 kilometres and covers an elevation gain of almost 1,000 metres, leading from the finish area in Kitzbühel up to the legendary start hut – or vice versa. Between the Hausbergkante, Mausefalle and Steilhang, you can experience the thrill of the World Cup up close. The route is of medium difficulty, well signposted and equipped with information points. If you only want to walk one way, you can easily take the Hahnenkamm gondola.
Our tip: set off early in the morning – then the Streif is all yours, with silence, views and a real sense of awe.
Schwarzsee is one of the warmest mountain lakes in Tirol – and one of the most atmospheric spots in Kitzbühel. Whether you’re swimming, strolling or simply taking a moment to pause by the shore, a day at the lake feels like a little break from everyday life.
And as the sun slowly disappears behind the mountains, the lake reveals its calmest and most beautiful side.
Our tip: early risers can start the day with yoga on the shore or a SUP tour – rental stations are right on site.
Kitzbühel is a paradise for cycling enthusiasts – whether on a mountain bike, e-bike or gravel bike. Over 800 kilometres of routes wind their way through valleys, alpine pastures and high-altitude trails – with panoramic views included. For keen cyclists, there are challenging climbs such as the Hahnenkamm Trail, whilst leisurely riders can enjoy gentle routes along the river or to one of the many mountain huts.
Our tip: bike hire and guided tours make cycling in Kitzbühel particularly straightforward – ideal for beginners or families with older children.
The Culinary Mountain Hike – a three-course tour through Kitzbühel’s southern mountains – is a real highlight for food lovers: the tour begins with a chairlift ride up to the Bichlalm, after which the route takes you on a 12-kilometre trek from hut to hut – each serving a different course.
Starter at the Bichlalm, main course at the Aurach Game Park and dessert at the Hallerstube inn.
Our tip: The tour can be booked online, including the lift and reservations – best to register in good time at the tourist office!
Even as you make your way up through the shady mountain forest, you can sense that there is more than just water flowing here. The path to the Sintersbach Waterfall starts at the Schradlern car park near the Pass-Thurn road and leads uphill for around 5 km – accompanied by the rush of the Sintersbach stream. Once at the top, the water plunges 85 metres in a free fall – powerful, clear, impressive. The route continues to the rustic Jochberger Wildalm, where homemade Tyrolean delicacies await hungry hikers.
Our tip: pause for a moment on the small viewing platform by the waterfall – this is the raw power of nature.
In Kitzbühel, hiking becomes a shared experience. The trails to the Seidlalm or around the Schwarzsee are particularly family-friendly – short stretches, gentle gradients and little discoveries along the way turn every outing into an adventure.
Our tip: The Alpine Flower Garden on the Kitzbüheler Horn delights children and adults alike – a nature experience with a 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains.
Just a short drive from Kitzbühel lies the Aurach Wildlife Park – a nature experience for all the senses. Set amidst wide meadows and rolling hills, it is home to over 200 animals – from stately red deer to curious alpacas.
A special destination for families, but also for anyone seeking peace and quiet, sweeping views and something out of the ordinary.
Our tip: The Branderhofstube serves traditional Tirolean cuisine with a fantastic view. Book your admission
